Auctioneer Daniel Wheeler told the relaxed looking crowd that he was looking forward to warm and spirited bidding. The crowd, with numerous prams and pups, did their best to oblige. Bidder 1 piped up quickly with an opening bid of $1.250,000 and Mr Wheeler asked for additional bids of $20,000. After a lengthy pause, Bidder 2 added another $10,000. A third bidder entered with $20,000 and just when we thought we were off and racing, the bidding stalled. Mr Wheeler reminded Bidders 1 and 2 that his rule of bidding was that you should never only bid once. However with no further bids, Mr Wheeler stepped inside briefly to speak with the vendors. Upon his return, Mr Wheeler stated that we were not yet at the reserve, and reminded the three bidders that they needed to be the one in the position to negotiate with the vendor. Bidder 2 added one further bid, but was quickly outbid by Bidder 3. The property was passed in to a smiling Bidder 3 for $1,300,000. Negotiations continued inside.
