The sun emerged just in time for this afternoon auction. As auctioneer Warwick Gardiner remarked, it was a prime time to showcase the northern aspect of the backyard – an enviable feature. Mr Gardiner wasted little time following his initial preamble in asking for an opening bid. He received one at $2,400,000, which he quickly outbid on a vendor bid of $2,500,000. A second bidder made an advance of $20,000, and there was a quick round of rises between Bidders 1 and 2. A third bidder tried his luck as well before bowing out. The property reached $2,800,000 before Mr Gardiner had a quick break to confer with the vendors. He re-emerged and continued pushing along the bids. The property reached its reserve at $2,810,000 with only Bidder 2 left in the race. Then the fourth and final bidder of the auction put up her hand and things spiked yet again. Eventually, the property reached its selling price of $2,860,000 to Bidder 4 and the crowd applauded.
