3 Rothesay Avenue, MALVERN EAST

BOUGHT* - $2,990,000
Auctioneer John Bongiorno was at his enthusiastic best as he described the 'much loved family home' at 3 Rothesay Avenue, Malvern East. There was a ripple of laughter from the 75 or so gathered crowd when he suggested that Malvern East is so nice it never rains despite the forecast. Mr Bongiorno then opened the bidding with a vendor bid of $2,600,000. With no bids forthcoming, Mr Bongiorno was about to reluctantly pass the property in when Bidder 1 raised their hand with an offer of $25,000. Bidder 2 quickly responded and the bids climbed to $2,710,000. At this point, with the ball in Bidder 1's court, the bidding stalled and Mr Bongiorno retreated inside to meet with the vendors. Upon his return Mr Bongiorno announced that although we were at the business end of the auction, at this price, the property would be passed in to the highest bidder for negotiation. He also lightheartedly offered to throw in the large inflatable pool swan to the highest bidder. The children in the crowd were eager with anticipation. The price continued to climb slowly with bids of $10,000 to $2,760,000 when Bidder 2 withdrew and Bidder 3 joined in. The pace quickened and soon we were at $2,990,000 with Bidder 1 in the driver's seat and Bidder 3 remaining guarded. Mr Bongiorno and his team again retreated inside and quickly returned to announce that the home was on the market. There were no further bids and, to a round of applause, the property was counted down and bought by Bidder 1. It seems that a 'much loved family home' has found
a new family.
