19 Hope Street, SOUTH YARRA

Under Hammer
BOUGHT* - $3,100,000
A good-sized crowd, bolstered by neighbours and dogs, lined up against the fence in Hope Street this morning. Auctioneer Andrew Hayne outlined the many benefits of the property and its location before opening with a vendor bid of $2,600,000. Despite an enthusiastic opening, bidders were initially quiet, prompting Mr Hayne to take a quick break. Upon his return he reiterated that he was here to sell and offered his real estate wisdom ‘don’t wait to buy real estate, buy and then wait.’ At this point our first bidder raised their hand with a bid of $5,000. ‘I would prefer $10,000,’ called Mr Hayne, but with a second bid of $5,000 from another bidder, we were on our way. Steadily in bids of $5,000 and $10,000 the two bidders took turns. At $2,810,000 the home was on the market and the bidding continued, with Bidder 2 hesitating at times to discuss the auction on the phone. Mr Hayne offered to take the call but his suggestion was declined. At $3,050,000 Bidder 1 made a final bold $50,000 bid buying the home, to a round of applause, for $3,100,000.
