BOUGHT* - $3,145,500
Auctioneer Scott Patterson’s preamble touched on what a family-friendly property and area this is. After running through the rules, and the property’s history, he kicked off with encouraging the crowd to “tell me what you think it’s worth”. After an initial vendor bid of $2,700,000, the first bidder offered $2,750,000. There was a second vendor bid of $2,800,000 before Mr Patterson announced that there would be no more vendor bids hereafter. Someone else spoke up with a $5,000 rise but was declined to which the same bidder offered a $10,000 rise, which was accepted. Bidding was a three-horse race, with sizeable increments being achieved initially. Then “one thousand” was called out, prompting laughter from the audience, followed up by a couple of repeat performances. When the price reached $3,140,000 Mr Patterson sought vendors’ instructions. From there, the property was declared on the market. Mr Patterson tried to entice further audience participation but the bidding increments didn’t return to their previous levels, with the hammer finally falling at $3,145,500.
