BOUGHT* - $1,795,000
This was the smallest auction I attended this weekend - but by no means was it the quietest! In front of only a crowd of 50, there were six different bidders vying for the opportunity to purchase 49 Holyrood Street. Auctioneer Stephen Wigley kept things fairly succinct when describing the property, allowing the location to speak for itself. Anticipating the usual lengthy pause at the conclusion of his introduction, Steve was pleased to see a genuine bid immediately follow at $1,400,000. With six bidders and everybody spread down Margarita Street, spotting the bidders was a little more tricky. Many bidders like to position themselves close to the auctioneer however, on this occasion, they were hidden behind spectators and along the fence line on the far side of the street. The bids slowed to $5,000s leading up to $1,600,000, when the property was announced on the market. The bidding and number of bidders then started to escalate again, stalling momentarily at $1,780,000 when there was some confusion surrounding the amount. Once that was cleared up a few more bids were placed, the property was eventually bought for $1,795,000.
