Wow! What a marathon auction. Seven bidders in total and a big crowd of around 90 people certainly kept auctioneer Iain Carmichael on his toes and agent Mark Robertson busy! Iain accepted an opening bid of $1,100,000 despite the lower end of the quote range being $1,300,000. He quickly followed up with a vendor bid of $1,300,000 and asked for bids of $20,000. An offer of $5,000 from bidder 1 was duly rejected but Iain did concede to accept bids of $10,000. At this point 3 new bidders entered the fray until $1,360,000 when Iain assured the crowd that no further vendor bids would be placed. This encouraging remark must have done the trick as 2 more bidders entered this slow competition. At $1,390,000 a lady in the crowd asked if it was on the market. Upon his return from conferring with the vendor, Iain made it clear that with one more $10,000 bid to reach $1,400,000 it would be on the market. A 7th bidder entered at $1,410,000 and bidding was now down to $5,000,000 and $2,000,000 increments. Bidding continued to creep up at a steady pace until the hammer finally came down at $1,685,000, much to the delight of those in attendance. Iain's voice was nearly gone by the end of the auction partly as he had a cold but partly because he did a great job managing the people and the pace of the action.
