With Hamish Tostevin a last-minute scratching due to injured vocal cords, Andrew Gibbons took up the auctioneering duties in what turned out to be a very exciting auction. As the sun broke through, the neighbours brought the crowd numbers up to 50 and Mr Gibbons began with a vendor bid of $1,550,000 after an opening bid was not forthcoming. Slow to warm up, the first bidder offered $1,560,000 followed by Bidder 2 at $1,570,000. Bidding stalled at this point, so Mr Gibbons went inside to talk with the vendors. When he returned, Bidder 3 positioned himself next to Mr Gibbons and offered $1,580,000. After a few more bids, Bidder 4 shows his hand, asking for a $5,000 rise to $1,625,000 which Mr Gibbons accepted. Bidder 3 tried to slow the bidding even further by asking for $1,000 rises, and although initially denied, was not disheartened. Getting his wish at $1,640,000, bidders 3 and 4 offer smaller bids all the way up to $1,661,000 where it is passed into Bidder 4. Totalling 31 bids, this auction was thoroughly entertaining! Bought after auction for an undisclosed amount.
