BOUGHT* - $1,820,000
It took me a while to find a place in the shade amongst the crowd of 60 people here. But I was glad I managed to claim a small spot under a tree as this was a long auction. It started slow and it took a while to move into second gear. Auctioneer Steve Abbott called for bids to start but after a prolonged silence, he accepted an opening bid of $1,550,000. Bidder 2 then offered $5,000 and these two put in counter bids until $1,685,000 when half time was called. Upon his return, Steve was greeted by a new bidder who offered $10,000. Bidder 2 dropped out at this point leaving bidders 1 and 3 in the ring. Just as a new bidder tried to offer $5,000, bidder 1 was quicker with a bid of $1,700,000 so his bid was not accepted. He didn't try again however, as bidder 3 came back with $10,000. Bidders 1 and 2 then continued in their slow race to win the right to negotiate. Interestingly, nobody asked if it was on the market! Passed in to bidder 1 at $1,790,000. Bought soon after for $1,820,000.
